Fabulous piece of craftsmanship, Damascus “San mai” round knife handmade by our friend and knife craftsman Borja Canedo in Spain.

Being a handmade knife, small imperfections that do not affect the optimal use are allowed.

Each blade and/or wooden handle will vary as no two are alike.

Two outer layers of stainless steel (AISI 420) and a central layer in Damascus steel (carbon steel 1095 + 15N20) hand forged.
In addition to its beauty, the combination of steels makes this blade more stable by distributing the forces.
Traditional cutting tool and essential in a workshop, the round knife is used for cutting (straights and curves) and/or to skive leather as well.
Delivered sharpened and ready to start working, plus a dose of camellia oil to keep the blade oiled and the wood nourished.

Description

“San mai” round knife handmade by our friend and knife craftsman Borja Canedo in Spain. Two outer layers of stainless steel (AISI 420) and a central layer in Damascus steel (84 layers combined carbon steel 1095 and 15N20) hand forged.

“San mai” roughly translates as three flat things, in Japanese (San=three Mai=unit counter for flat objects). The term, and its root honsanmai, has been used to describe that construction method for many hundreds of years, from around 1300 A.D. It refers to when three layers of steel are used. The center is hard, and the side is typically softer. As san mai is a generic term for a technique, the term can’t be trademarked. Outside the specific context of blade construction technique, the term, in general use in Japan, refers to three flat thing

The wood it is treated with “Cactus Juice” that stabilize, hardens and protects the wood from water and inclement weather conditions, thus preventing breakage or cracking due to humidity, cold, heat…
