The V2 LAL Skiving-Paring Knife represents the next chapter in the evolution of one of Leather Artisan Lab’s most appreciated tools.
The original version was crafted by our dear friend and master maker Borja, whose passion, skill, and dedication left a lasting impact on both Leather Artisan Lab and the leathercraft community.
As we moved forward, our goal was to preserve the spirit of the original design while maintaining the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship. For the V2, we are proud to partner with Vinz of Aion Temper, a highly respected Spanish maker known for producing exceptional handcrafted tools.
Each V2 LAL Skiving & Paring Knife is individually forged, ground, tempered, and finished by hand in Spain. Built from premium 440C stainless steel, the same family of steel widely used for surgical instruments, it offers an excellent balance of edge retention, toughness, ease of sharpening, and corrosion resistance—qualities highly valued by professional leatherworkers and enthusiasts alike.

For this new generation, we have expanded the available blade geometries. Alongside the original Traditional Angle design, we are introducing the new Step Version. This innovative profile provides a longer effective cutting edge, allowing smoother cuts, improved blade contact, and enhanced control during demanding skiving operations.
Whether you prefer the proven feel of the traditional design or the increased cutting edge length of the Step Version, both options deliver the precision and performance expected from a premium handmade leatherworking knife.

Every knife is individually handcrafted, meaning slight variations in finish and appearance are part of what makes each piece unique.
Maintenance:
- To keep the blade sharp, it is recommended to use a strop with polishing paste during work for quick touch-ups.
- If the blade loses some edge or requires more precision, use Matador Wet & Dry sandpaper or a sharpening stone with at least 2000 grit (I personally use up to 5000 or 6000 grit).
- Sharpen the knife at the correct angle and always in the right direction, never against the edge. After 10 or 12 strokes, run the knife 3 or 4 times over the back side of the blade (also never against the edge) to remove the burr.
