Our Vegetable Tanned Cowhide Rustic Look leather is sourced from a traditional tannery that still uses the classic method of tanning in bathtubs—a rare and time-honored process that gives the leather a unique, natural quality. This rustic, 100% vegetable tanned leather is especially recommended for artistic leatherworking such as tooling, carving, embossing, and wet molding. The natural grain of the leather, free of wrinkles or folds, creates a beautiful texture that enhances your craft.
While it is ideal for artistic projects, this leather is also perfect for making wallets, handbags, backpacks, belts, and other leather goods. The sides are approximately 26-29 square feet (2.4 meters x 1 meter), giving you plenty of material to work with.
We offer this leather with a matte or glossy finish, which is achieved traditionally by burnishing the leather with glass—no artificial products are applied. If we don’t have the exact leather you need in stock, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
These leathers are made to order and are therefore listed as Available on backorder. Once you place your order, we contact the tannery to prepare the leather according to your specifications, including the selected thickness and finish (Natural or Glazed).
As each hide is finished individually, dispatch may take a few extra days. Occasionally, the tannery may not have hides immediately available because they are still drying or completing the tanning process. If the expected delay exceeds approximately 7–10 days, we will contact you by email to let you know the estimated shipping time.

A very high quality leather. It’s all natural and easy to work with. The glossy finish gets really nice result on any application. It can be dyed, waxed, oiled or coloured and the result is amazing. The leather has a “patina look” when delivered. I would say the color is light cognac or cowboy tan.
